| Plot |
| The movie American Psycho is based on Bret Easton Ellis' controversial novel of the same name. Director Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol) and screenwriter Guinevere Turner (Go Fish) turned this story into a script and movie, which made for an interesting team considering the book and author had been charged with misogynism of the highest order by many critics. Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a soulless Wall Street yuppie addicted to blood and designer labels. During the day, amongst his Wall Street, materialistic colleagues he presents himself as sane and good-natured. But this is simply a shallow front, and with his 'master of the universe' ego, things start to get gory as he satisfies his less than sociable desires after dark. The film emphasises the satire of the book more than the horrendous details of the murders - although there is still a hefty dose of sexual violence. Not one for the queasy or easily offended. |
